Role Description
The Repository Services Librarian advances the sharing and stewardship of UW–Madison’s scholarly outputs by serving as the service lead and primary user support contact for MINDS@UW, the university’s institutional repository. This role also supports librarians across all 13 institutions in effectively using the repository to meet the needs of their campus communities.
Reporting to the Head of Research and Digital Scholarship Strategy, this position collaborates closely with colleagues in Libraries IT and Research Data Services. Responsibilities include:
- Monitoring, maintaining, and improving repository services
- Contributing to communication and outreach activities
- Implementing a new service roadmap, establishing priorities, and refreshing policies and workflows
- Partnering with a Repository Developer in Libraries IT on improvements
- Contributing to discussions and initiatives related to library resource discovery, open scholarship, and digital collection development
The successful candidate will perform a variety of duties, including, but not limited to:
- Act as service lead for the institutional repository (IR) platform and service
- Serve as primary contact for user support of the IR service
- Provide training and conduct outreach to current and potential IR user communities, including Universities of Wisconsin system librarians
- Maintain and improve IR policies and workflows
- Coordinate with Repository Developer and partners to develop roadmaps and implement projects
- Curate submitted research data for the IR and the Data Curation Network
This position is eligible for partial remote work, allowing for a maximum of 60% remote per week. This position is full-time, 100%.
Qualifications
- Professional experience working in institutional repositories or related areas, such as scholarly communication, data services, and/or open scholarship services
- Professional experience with technical management or service management tasks, such as user-support, user experience improvements, policy development, documentation, data curation, metadata standards, or other relevant experience
- Demonstrated ability to independently prioritize workload, manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively, and follow-through on tasks
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, faculty, students, and other stakeholders
- Demonstrated basic knowledge of repository content, format, and metadata standards
- Demonstrated familiarity with related issues and trends, such as open access publishing, copyright, public access requirements, accessibility, etc.
Requirements
- Experience with common digital repository platforms, DSpace preferred
- Experience managing or leading institutional repository services or other academic library services
- Experience with instruction, technical training, or conducting outreach activities
