DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION
UW Medicine Finance & Performance Analytics provides enterprise-wide financial decision support for UW Medicine’s clinical, operational, and strategic priorities. The team manages internal encounter costing, develops analytical tools and metrics, and supports leaders across multiple UW Medicine entities. Given UW Medicine’s complex data environment and multi-entity structure, this group plays a critical role in producing accurate, actionable financial insights to ensure long-term organizational performance.
POSITION HIGHLIGHTS
• Perform monthly cost accounting updates, audits, and reconciliations to support accurate financial decision‑making across UW Medicine.
• Maintain and improve data mappings, costing metrics, and statistical models used for encounter‑level costing.
• Partner with hospital and clinical leadership to develop and refine costing methodologies for procedures and services.
• Provide training, documentation, and analyst support related to cost data, system usage, and costing processes.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform monthly cost updates, audit results, reconcile variances, and distribute cost update communications to users.
Maintain all system data elements including mappings, hierarchies, tables, and standards used in cost processing.
Document data quality issues affecting cost outputs and participate in the resolution process.
Maintain existing costing metrics and statistics, and assist with developing new or improved allocation metrics.
Recommend enhancements or create new costing processes to meet emerging operational and management needs.
Collaborate with hospital and clinical leaders to ensure procedure-level costing reflects current operational understanding.
Maintain standardized documentation of methodologies, processes, and related training materials.
Provide support, workshops, and one-on-one training for internal analysts and other users of costed data.
Represent Finance at meetings with UW Medicine facilities and partner organizations as directed.
Participate in departmental initiatives, team building, and service improvements.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field
AND
At least three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in accounting or finance with a preference in cost accounting.
Ability to prepare complex financial analysis and interpretations with high degree of accuracy.
Proven analytical, verbal, and written communication skills.
Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management.
Ability to work independently with a minimum level of supervision and a high level of focus.
Demonstrates effective critical thinking, analytical, and problem solving skills.
Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.
