Job Description

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, Hourly

Reports To: GIS Supervisor

Job Type: On-Call, Variable-Time

Compensation: $24 - $34 per hour, based on relevant experience

This is an On-Call, remote, position with opportunity to transition full-time.

Candidates must be located within the contiguous United States. Ideal candidates will be located in California or must be able to work standard business hours in the Pacific Time zone.

JOB SUMMARY: The Biological GIS Specialist II will support a variety of projects including, but not limited to, utility, transportation, telecommunications, and energy infrastructure of various scales. In this role the specialist will query data using custom tools and models and apply standard static cartographic techniques to templated figures used in environmental review reports. .

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential job functions:

  • Use geospatial software to create static maps from templates that will be included in technical reports for local, state and federal agencies

  • Process, interpret, and maintain geospatial vector data in an assortment file formats

  • Proficiently utilize a variety of standard and custom geoprocessing tools

  • Utilize definition query techniques on various feature layers

  • Create, update and maintain ArcGIS online maps

  • Process field collected data

  • Adhere to established GIS procedures and company data structures

  • Reliably produce consistent and accurate products to meet fast-paced deadlines

  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance at work and meetings

  • Support, actively participate, and act in accordance with Wright’s and Eocene Environmental Group’s culture of safety and employee ownership

  • Comply with applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations; maintain knowledge of and follow all company policies and procedures

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • BA/BS Degree or Technical Certificate in GIS and 4+ years of GIS work experience

  • Experience with Esri Enterprise and other geospatial software such as Arc Map, Arc Pro, QGIS, etc.

  • Understand standard cartographic and database management principles

  • Proficient in a wide array of geoprocessing tools and techniques

  • Comprehension of ESRI ArcGIS online platform and publication

  • Capable of effectively managing files for complex projects with or without enterprise-level tools

  • Ability to perform work duties remotely and efficiently

  • Capable of independently troubleshooting problems and researching solutions with moderate supervision from senior staff

  • Ability to interact and communicate effectively with all levels of employees, both technical and non-technical

  • Familiarity with listed species under the Endangered Species Act, CEQA, NEPA, and/or other regulatory environmental programs

  • Familiarity with utility operations, maintenance, and/or construction datasets

  • Ability to read, write, and speak English sufficiently to perform job duties and to interact and communicate with employees and vendors

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Familiarity with environmental consulting, compliance review, or other disciplines such as land planning, archeology, hydrology, etc.

  • Familiarity with utility operations, maintenance, or construction datasets

  • Experience with working GIS data within Google Earth Pro

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite products utilizing the latest operating system

  • Experience with ArcGIS Enterprise

  • Experience building custom tools and models

  • Experience with python packages including Pandas, ArcPy, and OS

  • Knowledge of environmental data sources and how to download

  • Ability to perform work duties independently and efficiently

  • Demonstrates excellence in listening, questioning, and patience

  • Effective communication skills (e.g. writing, email, telephone, etc.)

  • Highly organized, motivated, dependable, and trustworthy
