Position Overview
Alnylam Pharmaceuticals is seeking a highly skilled and dynamic Medical Outcomes Science Liaison (MOSL) to become an integral member of our accomplished, payer-focused team within US Medical Affairs. The ideal candidate will possess a deep and comprehensive understanding of the United States healthcare ecosystem, enabling them to build and sustain a strong scientific presence and serve as a strategic, trusted advisor to influential decision-makers. The MOSL will play a pivotal role in advancing value and access initiatives across the healthcare continuum, focusing on Managed Care Organizations (MCOs) and related entities. This position reports directly to the Senior Director of US Payer Medical Affairs & Outcomes Strategy and will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to support appropriate patient access to Alnylam therapies.
Key Responsibilities
- Cultivate and maintain robust, strategic relationships with prioritized payer accounts at both the national and regional level to facilitate scientific exchange and support access initiatives
- Foster a collaborative, results-driven culture by building strong partnerships across internal teams - including Medical Affairs, Market Access, Value and Access Strategy, and other cross-functional stakeholders - to ensure a unified approach to payer education
- Lead scientific discussions with payers and other healthcare decision-makers to educate on the clinical value, appropriate use, and real-world impact of Alnylam-marketed products; provide data-driven support for medical policy development and coverage decisions
- Collaborate with Market Access teams to create and execute tailored, account-specific medical strategies that address unique payer needs and advance appropriate patient access to Alnylam therapies
- Gather actionable insights from payer interactions, identify evidence gaps, and communicate findings to inform evidence generation and medical strategies within Medical Affairs
- Identify and facilitate opportunities for scientific research collaborations, including real-world evidence generation and health outcomes studies, by leveraging internal expertise and aligning with Alnylam’s scientific objectives
- Provide medical expertise and logistical support for regional and national managed care congresses, ensuring effective dissemination of scientific information and engagement with key stakeholders
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge and adherence to all compliance requirements, including PhRMA Codes, OIG guidelines, FDA regulations, and Alnylam’s internal policies and procedures, ensuring the highest standards of ethical conduct
Qualifications
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in Medical Affairs within the pharmaceutical or biotechnology sectors, with a requirement that candidates possess direct, field-based experience engaging with payer organizations. Consideration may also be extended to those with extensive professional experience working in a relevant capacity within managed care organizations.
- Advanced degree in life sciences (MD, DO, PharmD, or PhD) is required. Additional credentials, such as completion of a managed care residency program, HEOR Fellowship, or attainment of an MS, MBA, or MPH, are considered advantageous.
- Thorough understanding of the US healthcare system and payer landscape, with demonstrated business acumen and insight into patient access dynamics and reimbursement pathways is required
- Expertise in cardiovascular and/or rare disease is highly desirable
- In-depth knowledge of pharmacoeconomics, health outcomes research, and value demonstration principles is strongly preferred
- Demonstrated ability to operate with integrity and purposeful urgency in a fast-paced, innovative, and entrepreneurial environment
- Solid working knowledge of regulatory and compliance standards relevant to pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a proven ability to effectively present complex scientific information and engage with diverse audiences, both internally and externally
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and Adobe software is essential
- Willingness and ability to travel up to 75%, as business needs require\

U.S. Pay Range
$214,200.00 - $289,800.00
The pay range reflects the full-time base salary range we expect to pay for this role at the time of posting. Base pay will be determined based on a number of factors including, but not limited to, relevant experience, skills, and education. This role is eligible for an annual short-term incentive award (e.g., bonus or sales incentive) and an annual long-term incentive award (e.g., equity).
