The Role

This position is responsible for Construction Safety nationally for Lumen Custom Network Services.  This position oversees all safety programs, policies, and performance across active construction sites. This role provides strategic leadership, ensures compliance, drives continuous improvement, and partners closely with internal team and construction partners to maintain a world‑class safety culture. The position manages a team of safety professionals and serves as the organization’s subject‑matter expert on construction safety risk.

The Main Responsibilities

Leadership & Strategy

  • Develop and execute the company’s construction safety strategy, aligning with corporate goals and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead, mentor, and evaluate a team of safety managers, coordinators, and field safety staff.
  • Champion a proactive safety culture focused on hazard prevention, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Serve as the senior advisor to executives and project leadership on safety risks, trends, and mitigation strategies.

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Work with Construction Partners to ensure compliance with OSHA, local/state regulations, and company safety standards across all projects.
  • Oversee incident investigations, root‑cause analyses, and corrective action plans.
  • Conduct regular reviews, and risk assessments to identify and mitigate hazards.
  • Maintain accurate safety documentation, reporting, and recordkeeping.

Program Development & Implementation

  • Develop and update safety policies, procedures, and training programs.
  • Lead implementation of safety management system.
  • Evaluate safety programs and performance of current and prospective construction partners.
  • Introduce new technologies, tools, and best practices to improve safety performance.

Training & Communication

  • Deliver or oversee training on OSHA standards, hazard recognition, and emergency response.
  • Communicate safety expectations clearly to internal teams and construction partners.
  • Facilitate internal safety training and meetings.

Performance Monitoring & Reporting

  • Track safety KPIs, analyze trends, and present performance reports to senior leadership.
  • Drive initiatives to reduce incidents, improve leading indicators, and strengthen safety engagement.

What We Look For in a Candidate

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 8–12+ years of construction safety experience, including leadership responsibility.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA 1926 standards and construction industry best practices.
  • Experience managing safety programs on large, complex, or multi‑site construction projects.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to travel as much as 20%-30%.

 

Preferred

  • 12-15 years construction safety experience
  • Knowledge of Lumen Proprietary Systems.
  • Professional certifications such as CHST, BCSP, CSM, or OHST.
  • Experience with Lean Construction, Behavior‑Based Safety, or ISO‑based safety management systems.
  • Background in commercial, industrial, infrastructure, or specialty construction.

Compensation

This information reflects the anticipated base salary range for this position based on current national data. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay is based on skills, experience and other relevant factors.

 

Location Based Pay Ranges:

 

$129,639 - $172,852 in these states: AL, AR, AZ, FL, GA, IA, ID, IN, KS, KY, LA, ME, MO, MS, MT, ND, NE, NM, OH, OK, PA, SC, SD, TN, UT, VT, WI, WV, and WY.
$136,121 - $181,494 in these states: CO, HI, MI, MN, NC, NH, NV, OR, and RI.
$142,603 - $190,137 in these states: AK, CA, CT, DC, DE, IL, MA, MD, NJ, NY, TX, VA, and WA.
