Job Description

Under the direction of the Inpatient Coding Manager, this position assists with the daily oversight of staff including: Staff scheduling Workflow analysis Productivity and quality monitoring Staff engagement Training Serves as a subject matter coding expert who: Monitors and evaluates the inpatient coding work Interprets coding guidelines Abstracts appropriate information according to standard classifications systems Performs data quality reviews and prepares complex reports as required. This candidate must have and maintain a robust knowledge of inpatient coding conventions and rules established by: Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) ICD-10-CM/PCS Official Coding Guidelines

Job Requirements

  • A minimum of 3 years of inpatient coding experience
  • A minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience or equivalent lead/coordinator experience
  • Epic and other vendor/system experience
  • Experience working for an Academic Medical Center and/or multi-hospital system
  • A minimum of 4 years of inpatient coding experience is preferred
  • Prior experience as a coding supervisor is preferred
  • Associate’s degree in Health Information Technology, or other related field or the equivalent combination of education and experience is required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Management, Health Information Administration, or other related field or the equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred
  • Proficient in various computer applications, including Microsoft products
  • Strong communication, organizational, project management, analytics, presentation, and decision-making skills
  • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or Certified Professional Coder (CPC)
  • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) is preferred

  • Pay is expected to be between: (expressed as hourly) $28.42 - $48.62. Final compensation is based on experience and will be discussed with you by the recruiter during the interview process.
