Job Description

• Work on Data Engineering projects for Vermont state government • Develop and optimize ETL pipelines • Handle SQL queries for data extraction and transformation • Collaborate with team members and stakeholders to ensure data quality and integrity • Produce technical documentation for data processes • Participate in data migration and validation efforts

Job Requirements

Proven experience working as a Data Engineer
Advanced SQL skills including complex SELECT statements, joins, subqueries, and transformation logic
Hands-on experience with MySQL and Microsoft SQL Server database architecture
Data modeling, normalization concepts, and reverse-engineering undocumented schemas
Experience with ETL methodology and preparing structured data for ingestion into third-party systems
Strong analytical and documentation skills with the ability to interpret incomplete or ambiguous legacy data
Experience with ETL processing of binary large objects (BLOBs), PDFs, and other unstructured data
Experience handling complex, highly relational legacy databases with limited or missing documentation
Prior experience supporting government or public sector IT projects
Strong ability to collaborate with technical teams, vendors, and subject-matter experts
Experience participating in test migrations and iterative data validation
Ability to produce clear, well-structured technical documentation suitable for long-term maintenance
Experience supporting data migration projects involving system replacements or modernization initiatives
