Role Description
We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer, Fintech to take deep ownership of the billing platform that sits at the heart of PushPress. This is a high-impact engineering role where you'll be architecting, building, and scaling the systems that process nearly a billion dollars in payments annually across our multi-sided marketplace.
You'll bring deep expertise in Stripe Connect and complex payment flows to drive the next generation of our billing platform, while collaborating closely with Staff Engineers, product, design, and finance to build solutions that create real value for gym owners and members alike. As a senior engineer, you'll shape technical direction, raise the bar for the team, and own outcomes end to end.
What You'll Do
- Lead the architecture and development of a world-class billing platform built on Stripe Connect, designed to scale with our growing marketplace.
- Design and implement sophisticated payment flows supporting complex multi-sided marketplace dynamics, including gym owner payouts, member billing, and platform revenue.
- Own financial reporting, reconciliation, and auditability systems that give our business and customers accurate, real-time financial visibility.
- Drive compliance across applicable tax, KYC/AML, and regulatory requirements, proactively identifying and addressing risk.
- Build seamless onboarding experiences for gym owners that reduce friction and accelerate time-to-value.
- Partner cross-functionally with Product, Finance, and Operations to identify and execute on new monetization opportunities.
- Mentor engineers on the team, establishing patterns and best practices for building reliable, compliant financial systems.
- Lead incident response for payment-critical systems and drive improvements that strengthen long-term resilience.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of software engineering experience, with 3+ years building and owning production billing or payment systems.
- Hands-on experience with Stripe Connect or comparable payments platforms (e.g. Square, Adyen, Braintree); Stripe Connect experience strongly preferred.
- Proven track record designing and scaling billing or payment systems for multi-sided marketplaces.
- Strong proficiency in Node.js, TypeScript, React, and REST API design.
- Deep understanding of financial systems concepts including subscription billing, revenue recognition, reconciliation, idempotency, and refund flows.
- Solid grasp of compliance requirements including PCI DSS, KYC/AML, and tax regulations relevant to payment platforms.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to drive alignment across engineering, product, and finance stakeholders.
- Strong ownership mindset — you take initiative, drive solutions, and see them through to production.
Benefits
- Equity Incentive Plan
- Flexible Paid Time Off (and Public Holidays)
- Health Care Plan (Medical, Dental & Vision)
- Retirement Plan (Company Sponsored 401k with Match)
- Life Insurance
- Family Leave (Maternity, Paternity)
- Work From Home Stipend
- Wellness Stipend
