Role Description
We are looking for a Fractional Payroll Specialist to join our team, working 20 hours per week. In this role, you will manage end-to-end payroll operations for hourly and salaried employees across multiple states, ensuring accurate and timely processing in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. You will maintain payroll records in Paylocity, reconcile payroll data to the general ledger, and prepare payroll tax deposits and filings. This role also supports employee payroll inquiries and year-end reporting, including W-2 preparation, while partnering with the People team and other departments to ensure smooth payroll operations.
What You'll Do
- Process multi-state payroll accurately and on time for hourly and salaried employees, including garnishments, benefits, and taxes consistent with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Maintain employee payroll records in Paylocity, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.
- Reconcile payroll data to general ledger accounts.
- Prepare and submit payroll tax deposits and filings.
- Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll matters.
- Stay up-to-date on payroll legislation and compliance requirements.
- Assist with year-end payroll reporting (W-2, etc.).
- Identify and recommend improvements to payroll processes and procedures.
- Collaborate with the people department and other departments as needed.
- Assist with other accounting tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field.
- 5+ years of experience processing multi-state payroll.
- Strong knowledge of payroll laws and regulations.
- Strong knowledge of benefits-related processing (health, 401K, etc.).
- Remote working experience.
- Proficient in Paylocity payroll software and Netsuite as ERP.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Pay Range Disclosure
Cobalt is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The hourly rate range for this role is $40 - $50. A candidate’s hourly rate is determined by various factors including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, and certifications. The hourly range may differ in other states and may be impacted by proximity to major metropolitan cities.
