Role Description

Reporting to the Director, Global Grants, the Program Officer serves as Mozilla Foundation’s connector and operational lead for grantees within the Arts + Technology focus area. This role plays a central part in advancing Mozilla’s work at the intersection of performing arts and technological innovation through the multi-foundation initiative, Artists Make Technology (AMT).

AMT is led by the Doris Duke Foundation in partnership with Mozilla Foundation, the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, and the Ford Foundation. Together, the collaboration demonstrates how philanthropy can cultivate field-level change by positioning performing artists as co-creators of technology — not simply end users.

This is a highly collaborative, operationally rigorous role that bridges field-building, grantmaking execution, and multi-stakeholder partnership management.

Job Responsibilities

  • Launching program operations for Artists Make Technology and supporting smooth grantee selection processes
  • Building & establishing strong working relationships with partner foundations and external collaborators
  • Establishing grantee onboarding, reporting, and communication systems
  • Coordinating grantee participation in Mozilla activities and ecosystem moments (e.g., convenings, MozFest, workshops)
  • Developing clear reporting and update mechanisms for internal leadership and funders

Grantee Connection, Platforming & Wayfinding

  • Serve as primary point of contact and trusted partner to grantees
  • Identify and facilitate connections between grantees and collaborators, funders, and community members
  • Scout opportunities to integrate grantee work across Mozilla Foundation programs
  • Build relationships with practitioners, funders, and leaders in the arts and technology space
  • Coordinate grantee participation in Mozilla convenings and ecosystem activities
  • Collaborate with the Doris Duke Foundation and partners to bridge externally facilitated relationships into Mozilla’s ecosystem

Stakeholder Management & Program Execution

  • Execute day-to-day program operations within approved scope, budget, and timelines
  • Translate strategic vision into operational workplans and participant experiences
  • Manage master timelines and ensure operational readiness across program phases
  • Coordinate across foundation partners, consultants, and internal Mozilla teams
  • Prepare status updates, reporting, and communications for internal and external audiences
  • Oversee logistics including vendor coordination, convening planning, compliance processes, and budget tracking

Portfolio Management

  • Support RFP development, outreach, application review, and selection committee management
  • Conduct due diligence and develop grant recommendations with strategic rationale and risk assessment
  • Manage grants lifecycle processes including agreements, monitoring, and reporting
  • Contribute to monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) efforts
  • Maintain accurate documentation, pipeline tracking, and database records in compliance with Foundation systems and policies
  • Contribute to field-building resources and knowledge products that share insights from grantee work

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of professional experience in arts, cultural institutions, and technology (performing arts experience strongly valued)
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives
  • Direct experience with grants (as grantmaker, grant manager, or grant recipient)
  • Exceptional project management skills with demonstrated ability to own timelines and deliver milestones
  • Experience coordinating across internal teams and external partners in matrixed environments
  • Strong relationship management and partnership-building skills
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills
  • High attention to detail and commitment to quality execution
  • Comfort working independently while aligning with leadership strategy
  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally as required

Additional Experience

  • Previous foundation or nonprofit grantmaking experience
  • Experience planning and executing convenings, conferences, or community events
  • Proficiency with grants management systems (Fluxx, Salesforce, or similar)
  • International or cross-cultural collaboration experience
  • Existing network within the arts, cultural institutions, and technology space
  • Experience with participatory or community-centered approaches
  • Personal or professional practice at the intersection of arts and technology

What Success Looks Like

  • Program successfully launched with grantees selected through smooth, well-executed processes
  • Strong working relationships established with partner foundations, funders, and external collaborators
  • Grantees report high satisfaction with Mozilla support, accessibility of resources, and program experience
  • Productive cross-functional partnerships with Mozilla teams (Community, Communications, Legal, Finance, Tech Platforms)
  • Growing network of relationships in the arts and technologies space; regular attendance at field conferences and convenings
  • Successful convenings and events delivered on time with strong participation
  • Clear, timely communication flowing to all stakeholders; leadership and funders well-informed
  • Work at the intersection of arts and technology is beginning to integrate into Mozilla Foundation's broader programs and initiatives
  • Program operations running smoothly with accurate documentation, budget tracking, and compliance
  • Active contributions to team-wide efforts including MEL and process improvements
