Role Description

The Business Process Specialist serves as an experienced subject matter expert of end-to-end business process with consultative responsibilities depending on the business need. This role is responsible for representing the business, regulatory and compliance requirements through collaboration with execution teams, leading medium to large strategic initiatives. Ensuring business need is clearly understood and the end-to-end solution meets the needs by delivering enhanced client/agent experiences, cost efficiencies, and/or competitive advantage across functional business areas/disciplines. Along with maintaining processes and procedures utilized by the processing teams, this role ensures they are accurate and at the right level of detail for judgement-based decision making. Ongoing process improvement and standardization to ensure efficient processes is expected of this role.

  • Acts as the key point of contact for the department to support the many and varied initiatives they may participate in.
  • Leads medium to large initiatives to define business need, articulate business value, process requirements, research, recommend appropriate solutions, and implementation.
  • Understands options, risks, upstream and downstream business impact of proposed solutions to communicate recommendations for to upline leaders.
  • Support and/or develop an environment in which Thrivent employees and colleagues are focused on continuous improvement, exceptional employee engagement, and an unwavering commitment to our clients.
  • Understands priorities and aligns work accordingly – often balancing multiple tasks and multiple priorities at once.
  • Develops and maintains end-to-end process knowledge of their assigned functional areas, including process design, and process performance.
  • Supports in the development of change management material and activities to support new processes and procedures. Influence without authority through explanation of facts, policies, and practices.
  • Develops and maintains processes and processing documents assuring compliance with regulatory requirements. Inform Business Leaders, Operations Team Lead(s), and Individual Contributors of process and/or documentation changes.
  • Lead/coordinates the completion of regulatory, tax, compliance, and audit reviews.
  • Establishes and executes controls that support their assigned functional areas.
  • Provide work direction/mentorship to Associate Business Process Experts and/or manage processes/programs.
  • This role will interact with the following audience:
    • Individual contributors at Thrivent
    • Field Organization
    • External vendors and/or consultants
    • Thrivent clients
    • All levels of leadership
  • Developing recommendations for implementing best practices for complex business processes. Determining which of the possible solutions is most appropriate for the situation (accounting for various factors). Interpret and explain data or information to deliver messages to the audiences not knowledgeable in the subject matter.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3+ years of relevant experience in service processing and/or operations environment.
  • Proven levels of critical thinking, analysis, and demonstration of working independently.
  • Experience with improving and/or creating processes.
  • Ability to multi-task significant priorities with complex components.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills. Ability to build relationships across different audiences.
  • Proven organizational skills.

Requirements

  • Exceptional oral, written, presentation communication and interpersonal skills for various levels within the organization.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of service processing and operations as well as pertinent laws and regulations. Accountable for understanding the process in depth, ability to explain most complex inquiries around process and procedures.
  • Knowledge/understanding of Continuous Improvement and change management methodologies (i.e. DMAIC and ADKAR) through participation within CI and projects and certification (i.e. Green Belt preferred).
  • Experience working with multiple project management methodologies (i.e., agile, waterfall) including requirements, testing, design, and implementation strategies.
