About the opportunity:
 
The Remote Scheduler/Clinical Assistant – Ophthalmology provides comprehensive remote administrative and clinical support to ophthalmology providers and care teams. This role is responsible for coordinating patient access through appointment scheduling, managing surgical and procedural workflows, and supporting ophthalmology clinic triage. Key responsibilities include scheduling clinic visits, procedures, and OR cases; managing referrals and insurance authorizations; assisting with patient triage and communication; providing patient education; and documentation support. The position ensures a seamless patient experience by promoting efficiency, access, and continuity of care while maintaining compliance with organizational, regulatory, and clinical standards across ophthalmologic services.
 
 
What you will do:
  • Coordinate and schedule patient office visits, in-office procedures, operating room cases, and incoming referrals, including communicating schedule changes to patients and clinical teams.
  • Obtain, process, and document insurance pre-authorizations, pre-certifications, and coordination of benefits for procedures, imaging, prescriptions, and surgeries.
  • Provide authorization and required clinical information to outside facilities to support continuity of care.
  • Educate patients on surgical and procedural details, including pre-operative and post-operative instructions and follow-up care.
  • Inform patients of insurance coverage, out-of-pocket expenses, and required payments prior to procedures, ensuring accurate documentation.
  • Respond to patient portal messages, voicemails, and inquiries within established service timelines.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and timely documentation in the electronic health record (EHR), including clinical communications and procedural details.
  • Ensure all patient communication and procedural information is appropriately shared with relevant clinical and administrative team members.
  • Provide general administrative support as needed to promote efficient clinic operations and high standards of patient service.

What you will need:
 
Experience:

•    2 years of relevant clinical experience preferred
•    3 years of experience in sales preferred
•    3 years of experience in surgical counseling preferred

License(s) and Certification(s):
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • One of the following licenses required:
    • Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA)
    • Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT)
    • Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technician (COMT)
    • Certified Medical Assistant (MA)
    • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
    • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
    • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)

The posted salary range for this position is the anticipated hiring range in Colorado and will be adjusted based on geographic location. Vail Health considers a variety of factors in making compensation decisions which influence the offer a candidate receives.

Hourly Pay:
$23.12$31.91 USD
