Role Description

The Department of Adult Correction, Division of Community Supervision is looking to fill a Licensed Mental Health Professional role within the Program Services Branch in the Mental Health section. This position is classified as Field/Home-as-duty.

  • Facilitating case consultation meetings to discuss complex cases of individuals with serious mental illness (SMI) supervised by Probation/Parole Officers
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with Community Supervision staff and external stakeholders, including community resource providers, advocacy groups, Managed Care Organizations (MCO), and other state agencies
  • Developing, organizing, and presenting training sessions for Probation/Parole Officer and Chief Probation/Parole Officers pertaining to motivational interviewing, assessing functional abilities, practicing skills sets and other relevant topics
  • Reviewing and conceptualizing personal health information (PHI) in health records, and maintaining PHI in accordance with HIPAA standards
  • Clinical case management of individuals under supervision with high acuities, including referrals to residential treatment programs, higher levels of community care, and other community services, as appropriate
  • Advocating for needs of individuals being supervised under Community Supervision and serving as the liaison between DCS and external stakeholders
  • Participating in program planning and evaluation for quality assurance of program services
  • Researching and interpreting internal DCS policies and State and Federal laws to formulate recommendations for best practices in supervising justice-involved individuals with serious mental illness and co-occurring disorders
  • Tracking data pertaining to the Specialty Mental Health Probation Program to inform program development
  • Utilizing web-based systems and applications

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in clinical social work, clinical mental health counseling, psychology, marriage and family therapy or another human services related field from an appropriately accredited educational institution
  • Thorough knowledge of serious mental illnesses, substance use disorders, community resources, and treatment modalities, including experience providing direct treatment to individuals with serious mental illness
  • Demonstrated experience in aftercare/continuing care planning for high acuity cases and knowledge of various barriers to accessing community resources for justice-involved individuals
  • Demonstrated experience facilitating groups (group therapy, support groups, educational groups, etc.)
  • Proven experience with completing comprehensive assessments, such as a Biopsychosocial Assessment or Comprehensive Clinical Assessments, and effectively delivering clinical services utilizing various therapeutic modalities
  • Experience developing, organizing, and presenting training sessions to various education levels (oral, visual, and written communication)

  • Must hold and maintain an independent license to practice as a mental health clinical practitioner in North Carolina or have met the requirements to be licensed in North Carolina at the associate or provisional level as a mental health clinical practitioner
